Do you have a little time to help with an event or party?
Our Palo Alto alumnae chapter has been so generous with their time. Again this year we have several events where our "eyes and helping hands" can assist our visually impaired friends. Please respond to my request by email or I will call you.
  • Annual Summer Picnic for Silicon Valley Council of the Blind in San Jose. 2-3 hour shifts helping with setup, cleanup or "eyes and helping hands". Very relaxing day in a lovley open space park by the bay.
  • Delta Gamma Holiday Party for the Blind and Visually Impaired. This is always a special day! Sweet Adelines sing and yummy food is served. Drivers, food prep & helpers are needed.

Other events and "One on One" service activities are available. For example, Susan Mueller and her dog, Honey, have been visiting elderly friends at a local rehab center. Our members are also called upon to give rides to trains, appointments and events for our DG sisters and others. These times are always rewarding as we make new friends and learn so much about the needs of people with disabilities.

I hope you can help! Lolly Osborne lolly@osbofamily.com

More Volunteer Service Opportunities

Come join us as a volunteer and help our visually impaired and senior friends who need an extra hand. We have a variety of special and flexible programs that could fit your busy schedule. Here are a few examples of how you can help and bring a smile to someone's day:

  • The Silicon Valley Blind Club is currently looking for Delta Gamma volunteers for mending clothing, outreach transportation and crafts assistance.
  • The Lucile Salter Packard Children's Hospital Department of Opthamology is currently looking for volunteers for outreach transportation and watching the siblings of children undergoing outpatient treatment.
  • Take time to volunteer at The Vista Center...formally called the Peninsula Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired (PCBVI). Go directly to the Vista Center home page: Vista Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Click on the Volunteer Button to view a variety of Volunteer Activities. For more information about volunteering at Vista Center, contact Volunteer Coordinator RoJeanne Sawey, rsawey@vistacenter.org or at 650-858-0202, Ext. 104.
  • Donate to the Glaucoma Research Foundation. The Glaucoma Research Foundation is a national non-profit organization dedicated to finding a cure for glaucoma. Founded in 1978 in San Francisco, they fund glaucoma research world-wide.
  • Attend our alumnae events that support and raise funds for our Foundation programs and pay your dues. Check the Master Calendar on this website for specific information.
