The Palo Alto Alumnae Chapter works in support of the Delta Gamma Foundation and its focus on Aid to the Blind and Service for Sight. The mission of Delta Gamma Foundation is:
- Provide a means for Delta Gammas to act in concert for charitable, scientific, educational, and cultural objectives.
- Provide guidance, support, and praise to all Delta Gamma volunteers.
- Set and achieve standards for volunteer service.
- Assist Delta Gamma Fraternity in meeting its objects as stated in Article II of the Delta Gamma Fraternity Constitution.
At the local level, Palo Alto supports and works with organizations such as:
- Vista Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired
- Sensory Access Foundation
- Living Skills for the Visually Impaired
- Senior Scholarship through Executive Office in Elizabeth Sensabaugh's honor
- Scholarships for women at San Jose State University and Santa Clara University
- Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Ophthalmology Department
In addition we sponsor an annual holiday party for the blind and visually impaired. For more than 35 years, Delta Gammas have celebrated the holidays with the visually impaired. At last year's holiday party, we invited 120 guests, with approximately 60 visually-challenged guests joining us for food, music and camaraderie! One woman, whose mother passed away last year, came in her honor simply because it was one of her mother's favorite events!
The Mission Valley Chorus of Sweet Adelines are our enthusiastic partners for this event. They entertain us with a fabulous choral program, helping grow the spirit of the holidays. Our Delta Gamma families provide transportation, sandwiches, cookies, fruit, drinks, and other goodies. Once we have finished serving our guests, we join them for conversation and entertainment. Please join us this December to ring in the holiday season!
