I am thrilled to be writing my first Captain's Call as your new president! I am truly honored and hope to continue to build upon the outstanding programming, foundation work, and sisterhood that this chapter is recognized for year after year.
Founders Day 2011 was an intimate affair and it was wonderful to celebrate and pay special tribute to our members, chapter, and founders together with the Silicon Valley chapter. It was great to see old and new friends alike! I found myself personally reinvigorated with Delta Gamma spirit and inspiration.
This leads me into my challenge for all of you! It is a Just One Hour campaign. With a one year old and a full-time job, I certainly understand how busy life is. However, Just One Hour of your participation in an event, fundraiser or board meeting could bring new friendships, community involvement, and a renewed connection to your DG heritage.
Just One Hour to help with our annual Holiday party for the blind or visually impaired (which we've held continuously for over 50 years) or one hour to attend Founder's Day or our smaller social events such as the upcoming Stanford History Walking Tour or our tentative Fall guest speaker series on important life issues such as estate planning can provide both you and the chapter with a rich and rewarding experience.
Of course, our chapter does continue to be strong and we have all of you to thank and your support is valued and recognized. We appreciate the payment of dues and the financial support of our Foundation and local philanthropies. But that one hour of your personal time, even at just one event a year, can make all the difference in elevating this chapter to a new level of success.
Our alumnae chapter has been active for 88 years and while we take our name from Palo Alto, our members live and work throughout the Bay Area and our members are of all ages and stages. So please watch your inbox for our evites, keep your newsletter handy, or go to our events page at paloaltodg.org.
So remember, it's about doing something for you. It's about doing something for the visually impaired. It's about Doing Good. I encourage you to join us for Just One Hour and I truly look forward to seeing you at an event soon.
